Families play a key role is shaping children’s character, learning and readiness for schooling. Families are partners in the learning and development of their children. I work with schools to plan opportunities to strengthen parents’ and caregivers’ knowledge and access to resources, while ensuring that the needs of school communities are met. I provide strategic support to families to improve awareness of literacy curriculum, assessment, and instruction. I also facilitate access to a variety of practical resources and ideas to support learning at home.
My goal is to accommodate the needs of families and enhance accessibility to services and resources. As needed, I can provide translations of presentations in real time in multiple languages. Further, I provide access to translations of documents, videos, and children’s books in multiple languages to encourage speakers of languages other than English to participate in their children’s learning.
The following are sample topics for workshops I provide for families:
- Supporting Emergent Readers
- Promoting Early Literacy Skills and Readiness for Schooling
- Effective Literacy Experiences Begin at Home
- Understanding the Science of Reading to Help All Children Succeed
- Having Conversations About Storybooks – Strategies for Parents
- Improving Children’s Writing Skills at Home
- Effective Methods for Improving Children’s Vocabulary
